Two Other Important Vehicle Systems You Should Know
Brakes
How does your small foot on a small gas pedal stop a giant moving vehicle? It’s all about friction, fluid, and brake pads. When you hit the brakes, fluid is pressurized in the braking system and the brake pads are pushed against the rotors- which creates friction. That friction allows your car to slow down and stop.
It’s important to get a brake fluid exchange (about every 2 years) brake fluid naturally attracts moisture, which can cause the fluid to boil under heavy braking or cause internal corrosion, leading to decreased braking effectiveness. Brake pads should also be changed because they wear out and become thinner.
Transmission
Most pay no attention to their transmission unless something goes wrong, but the transmission is one of the most important systems in your car! Transmission fluid lubricates, cools, and cleans your transmission, providing energy to your engine.
As the fluid protects the transmission, it breaks down, leading to harmful deposits in the transmission. Repairs can cost thousands of dollars. So it’s important to change transmission fluid and filter (if applicable) per manufacturers recommended interval. Always choose to prevent transmission issues instead of fixing them.
